Update from Spanish Language Workshop Group

Students in the Spanish Language workshop group (focusing on Cuban Life and Culture) spent Monday morning in Cojimar, the fishing village which inspired Hemingway’s “The Old Man and the Sea.” Our day began with a visit to an organic garden, where we sampled guava right from the tree and grapes from the vine! We learned that 75% of all food grown in Cuba is organic, including the herbs and fruits we would later use in our cooking class. From the garden, we walked to Ajiaco Café, where we participated in making traditional Cuban dishes – ajiaco (pepper soup), lobster and shrimp, and ropa vieja (shredded beef). Then students concocted their own refreshing virgin mojitos! Finally, we indulged in all the food we made for lunch and left with very full bellies and certificates of recognition for our participation in this cultural experience!

Stay tuned!
